Guidelines for Paper, Poster and Symposium Presentations
Guidelines for Chairing a Paper Session
Papers are organised into thematic panel sessions lasting 1 hour (3 papers) or 1 hour 20 minutes (4 papers). There will be multiple sessions running parallel at any one time. Each panel is chaired to ensure the session keeps to the allocated time.
Each single presentation is permitted 20 minutes. It is expected that the presentation will last 15 minutes allowing 5 minutes for questions from the audience.
To ensure a smooth running of each session, all presentations need to pre-loaded onto the computer in advance and checked by the IT team. All presenters should submit their presentations electronically by Monday 28 June to bsg2010@brunel.ac.uk. Please ensure that your saved file includes your surname and the reference number for your paper, and the anchor slide for your presentation clearly indicates the reference number for your paper.
All session rooms have a computer, projector and screen. The equipment is able to run PowerPoint presentations created using the new Microsoft 2007 or the 97-2003 versions, DVDs, VHS and videos embedded in PowerPoint presentations. Rooms are also equipped with white boards. Flip charts and overhead projectors are available on request.
Please ensure you check the Conference Programme to confirm the time and location of your presentation.
Poster Presentations
We are delighted this year to have a special room for poster viewing throughout the conference. In addition, there are two dedicated “meet the author” poster sessions for authors to speak to colleagues/other delegates: Tuesday 6 July, 15:40-16:10, and Wednesday 7 July, 15:45-16:15. We expect that authors and delegates will be present for both sessions.
Please ensure you check the Conference Programme to confirm the time of the poster sessions as this may change subsequent to publishing this information.
Dimensions for a poster should not exceed A1 (594x841mm) and should be presented in portrait orientation only. The poster should be a balance between informative and artistic; posters should strive to highlight pertinent information while keeping in mind the logistics of attendees effectively reading and understanding the topic presented. The presenters name and institution should also be available on the poster. We recommend you use a minimum of FONT 48 for headings and a minimum of FONT 18 for text.
To ensure your poster is hung for viewing, please go to the Darwin Room (Hamilton Centre) immediately following registration and someone will assist you.
The Stirling Prize for best research student poster will be awarded at the conclusion of the conference. For more information on this prize, please visit the conference website.
Symposia
Each symposium has been thematically organised by the presenters. Each symposium is 1 hour and 20 minutes in length, and will run in parallel to other sessions. The chair of each symposium is expected to facilitate the session, length of presentations, and ensure it is finished on time.
To ensure a smooth running of each session, all presentations need to pre-loaded onto the computer in advance and checked by the IT team. Each presenter should forward their presentation to the symposium chair. The symposium chair should then submit all presentations electronically by Monday 28 June to bsg2010@brunel.ac.uk. Please ensure that all saved files include the surname and the reference number for your symposium, and the anchor slide for each paper clearly indicates the reference number for the symposium.

The equipment is able to run PowerPoint presentations created using the new Microsoft 2007 or the 97-2003 versions, DVDs, VHS and videos embedded in PowerPoint presentations.
