Social Programme
To accompany a stimulating academic programme, the 2010 BSG conference will offer you an exciting range of social activities and networking opportunities, all of which will be centrally located on campus.
So far these include:
- A BBQ followed by a pub style quiz (with prizes)
- Conference dinner (with provision for your specific dietary requirements)
- Networking opportunities and welcome meetings for students and those new to BSG
- Wine reception to celebrate 30 years of Ageing and Society
- For football fans following the World Cup- adjoining the dining facilities is a ‘sports bar’ with big screen TV
- Access to the internet through networked computers in close proximity to the concurrent sessions
- Lunchtime meeting opportunities
- Late bar
During and after the Conference Dinner on Wednesday, Regent Swing will be entertaining us. from 7.30 to 10.00 pm. Regent Swing jazz ensemble is based on a traditional line-up of Saxophone, Piano, Double Bass and Drums with optional female and male vocals. They comprise Brunel Music Lecturer Frank Griffith’s Quartet, Brunel 2004 Music graduate Nick Pugh on Bass, local Uxbridge-based pianist, Rick Laughlin and Brunel’s drums teacher, Richard Newby. Starlight disco will run a disco following the quartet up until 1.00am.
In addition to the facilities offered as part of the conference, Brunel University has a number of facilities which include a coffee shop, shop, ATM and an art gallery, all located centrally.
Accommodation also includes tea and coffee making facilities.
Brunel University is located in Uxbridge, which has transport links via coach, train and road (M40 and M25) into London. Coaches also operate from Uxbridge to Oxford every 10 minutes making it easy for conference delegates, particularly those from overseas, to add additional travel opportunities to their visit.

The beautiful game at BSG
Hi, those of you attending BSG, who are also footie fans, will realise that the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup are on the first and second evenings of BSG (KO 7.30pm). You may be wondering how you can also fit in this essential viewing with the excitement of the academic programme. Well never fear, your social committee have thought of this too... There is a sports bar adjoining the conference dinner venue, with large screen TV and beer! What more could you need? So you can have it all, though we can’t guarantee that your team will make it this far!!!
